Ben Zhou Biography

Ben Zhou was born in Hangzhou, China in 1990 to a family of teachers and moved to New Zealand with his family at the age of 11. He had a difficult time in the new place, mainly because he did not speak English. According to Zhou, his mother played a huge role in his adaptation. His father taught his son to work hard to gain success. Zhou's parents also taught their son a love for baseball, and he played baseball from early childhood through college, where he played for the college team.

He attended Earlham College from 2006 to 2010, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. Ben Zhou believes that playing baseball in college is what developed his situational and tactical awareness skills. While attending high school in New Zealand, Ben Zhou had a hard time settling into the environment due to the peculiarities of its culture. To further his education, he moved to the United States where he enrolled in college. During his studies, Zhou prepared to become an analyst, but after graduation he returned to China.

Zhou's career started in China, where he moved after his college graduation. He was hired by XM, an international forex brokerage company. For seven years, he held the position of Greater China region manager. He learned about cryptocurrencies in 2016 from a friend and since then has closely followed the industry's development, noting every advantage and disadvantage.

In 2017, when cryptocurrency prices began to skyrocket, Zhou noticed that the crypto industry wasn't getting the attention it deserved. And at the time, the exchanges that existed weren't making efforts to fix it.

Zhou decided to contribute by creating a YouTube channel to raise awareness about the crypto industry and its potential. He produced content until he founded ByBit.

Zhou soon realized that the existing platforms had a number of flaws, and this prompted Zhou to co-found ByBit in March 2018. Zhou recruited the best minds in the industry to join ByBit. Tech and fintech experts from Alibaba, Tencent, Morgan Staley and other well-known brands brought their expertise. Two years later, the exchange managed to expand its presence in the Asian market.
