Education

Jeremy Allaire graduated from Macalester College with a degree in political science, philosophy, and economics. While in college, Allaire became obsessed with the internet's potential to revolutionize media and communication infrastructures and its implications for human rights, remarkably free speech.

Career

In 1995, Allaire and his brother J.J. Allaire founded Allaire Corporation. They invented ColdFusion, a rapid web application development platform designed to connect HTML pages to a database. ColdFusion became widely used, and companies such as Myspace, Target, and Toys R Us relied on technology to develop their online properties.

The company went public in 1999 and was later acquired by Macromedia. As a result of this acquisition, Jeremy Allaire became the Chief Technology Officer of Macromedia, where he helped to develop the Macromedia MX platform, a suite of software tools and servers for building and deploying content-rich, interactive software applications on the web.

In 2003, Allaire took on the role of technologist and executive-in-residence at General Catalyst Partners, a venture capital firm. During his time at the company, Allaire's focus was on identifying investment opportunities in various areas of internet technology, including broadband media, mobile content, internet identity, and security.

While at General Catalyst, Allaire worked on incubating a new venture known as Brightcove. It is an online video platform that distributes video content across various devices.  In the second quarter of 2013, Allaire stepped down from his role as Brightcove's CEO to serve as chairman of the board.

Allaire is also the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Circle, a global provider of crypto financial services which manages the popular stablecoin USDC

Allaire has testified on cryptocurrencies and digital assets before the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Government Affairs and has offered expert testimony and policy recommendations at the highest levels inside important financial regulatory and law enforcement agencies throughout the US, UK, Europe, and Asia. 

Personal life

Born on May 13, 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Jim and Barb Allaire, Jeremy Allaire was brought up in Winona, Minnesota. His father, a retired psychologist, and his mother, a retired press editor, provided the foundation for his upbringing.  Allaire is said to be educated in the Montessori tradition, which instilled in him a belief in self-direction, independent thought, peer collaboration, and responsibility.
