Long has a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School (1994), a Master of Public Policy degree from the Kennedy School of Government (1994), and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming (1990).

Career

Long is said to have over 22 years of experience working on Wall Street, and she has been involved in bitcoin and blockchain technology since 2012. Her involvement began in economics circles within the Austrian School of Economics in 2012, and she became fully immersed in the field in 2013 after reading an article on purchasing and storing bitcoin.

Between 2018 and 2020, Long played a leading role in making Wyoming a hub for blockchain companies in the US. She helped the state pass 20 laws that enable blockchain technology, and from 2016 to 2018, she served as Chairman and President of Symbiont, a blockchain enterprise start-up that spearheaded a blockchain project for delivering market index data to Vanguard. Before this, she ran Morgan Stanley's pension solutions business (2007-2016) and held senior positions at Credit Suisse (1997-2007) after starting her career at Salomon Brothers (1994-1997).

Long gained significant attention in the crypto regulatory space in 2020. She announced the establishment of Avanti Financial Group, which is the first crypto-native bank in the US, in February 2020. Later in the year, the firm received a charter to operate from the Wyoming State Banking Board, trailing only San Francisco-based crypto exchange Kraken. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon appointed Long as a member of the Wyoming blockchain committee, where she leveraged her influence to encourage crypto users and others to support pro-crypto legislation in the state.

Long was born and raised in Laramie, Wyoming, United States. Her parents were both educators. Her father taught electrical engineering at the University of Wyoming for forty years, while her mother taught elementary school.
