Education

Hayden Adams is known to have had an early interest in technology and finance. Prior to joining Uniswap, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering from Stony Brook University in 2016. While in college, he grew interested in the convergence of computer science and finance, and he began searching for ways he could perhaps improve the traditional finance industry.

Career

After graduation, Adams worked as a researcher at Columbia University Medical Center, where he worked on a research project focused on developing an effective search algorithm to retrieve relevant articles concerning adverse drug reactions from the medical database PubMed. Following this, he worked as a mechanical engineering intern at Vista Wearable Inc, where he designed and modeled wearable devices to assist visually impaired individuals.

In 2016, Adams joined Siemens as an engineer. At Siemens, he performed design exploration and engineering simulations for clients in the aerospace and automotive industries at Siemens, but he was fired from his job after working there for just about a year. He stated that this was the darkest period of his life.

During this time, his friend Karl Froersh (who was at the time working at the Ethereum Foundation) introduced him to cryptocurrency by showing him a post on Reddit "Let's run on-chain decentralized exchanges the way we run prediction markets", written by Ethereum Blockchain creator Vitalik Buterin.

Floresch advised Adams to apply for a $65,000 grant from the Ethereum Foundation. Eventually, his project, Uniswap, was awarded the grant. Adams made the bold choice to launch his own business in 2018. He recognized a chance to use his engineering expertise to create a decentralized exchange where users could buy and sell a range of digital assets, including trendsetting cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

In November 2018, the first version of Uniswap was launched on the Ethereum mainnet. Due to the decentralized nature of the exchange and the usage of smart contracts, it quickly became well-known among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, while its trading volumes soared. In September 2020, Uniswap surpassed Coinbase in monthly trading volume, recording a total of $15.3 billion in trades. Adams is now the CEO of Uniswap Labs, the company that develops and maintains the Uniswap protocol.

Social media presence

Hayden Adams has an active presence on both Twitter and LinkedIn. On Twitter, he advocates for Uniswap and expresses his views on the inadequacies of the existing financial system, among other topics. According to CoinDesk's ranking of the most prominent figures in the crypto space in 2020, Adams was featured in the list due to his influence. Cointelegraph also considers him to be among the top six individuals in the industry
