Balaji Srinivasa obtained a BS, MS, and PhD in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He also taught several classes at Stanford, including a massive open online course (MOOC) in 2013 that had over 250,000 students from around the world.

Career

In 2007, Srinivasan co-founded Counsyl, a genetic testing business that offered prospective parents tests to check for Mendelian disorders. In 2018, Myriad Genetics purchased Counsyl for $375 million.

Srinivasan joined Andreessen Horowitz in 2013 in the role of general partner. He co-founded 21e6, which later evolved into 21 Inc, a Bitcoin mining firm that failed despite receiving over $120 million in funding from investors, the same year. The business changed its name to Earn.com, a platform that lets email senders pay recipients in virtual currency for their responses. Once Coinbase purchased Earn.com in 2018, Srinivasan was appointed as the organization's first CTO. He left Coinbase in 2019, and in December of the same year, Coinbase shut down Coinbase Earn.

In July 2022, Srinivasan published a book titled The Network State: How To Start a New Country, which introduces the concept of a Network State. The book proposes the establishment of decentralized digital communities that crowdfund resources to create new autonomous cities and states. 

Srinivasan's entrepreneurial accomplishments have earned him accolades such as MIT Technology Review's "Innovators Under 35" list in 2013 and Fortune's "The Ledger 40 Under 40" list in 2018.
