After receiving his degree, he went on to work for a number of technology businesses, including Google and Guidewire Software, where he was responsible for a wide range of engineering and software development responsibilities.
Career
In 2011, Lee discovered Bitcoin and was immediately got attracted by the possibilities that it possessed. In October of that year, he launched his own cryptocurrency, which he called Litecoin. Litecoin was developed to be very similar to Bitcoin in many respects; yet, it has a few fundamental distinctions from Bitcoin, including significantly shorter confirmation times for transactions and a distinct mining process. Lee saw Litecoin as a "lite" version of Bitcoin, hence its name.
As a result of Litecoin's meteoric rise to prominence in the cryptocurrency community, Lee became the cryptocurrency's primary creator and ambassador. He worked on enhancing the technology of Litecoin as well as promoting its acceptance, which contributed to the coin's rise to become one of the most valuable cryptocurrencies based on market capitalization.
In 2013, Lee decided to leave his position at Google. He started working as the Director of Engineering at Coinbase. Lee kept working on Litecoin while also contributing to other cryptocurrency-related projects, such as the SegWit scaling solution for Bitcoin.
In 2017, Lee made the controversial decision to sell all of his personal holdings of Litecoin, which caused a stir in the cryptocurrency community. He cited concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as well as a desire to remove any potential distractions from his work on the project.

Lee was born in Ivory Coast in 1976, moved to the United States when he was 13 years old and completed high school in 1995. Lee's brother, Bobby C. Lee, is the founder and CEO of the cryptocurrency exchange BTC China.
