Dan Schulman received his Bachelor degree from Middlebury College with a major in economics in 1980. After that, in 1984, he received his Master of Business Administration from the New York University Stern School of Business.
Career
Schulman began his professional life at AT&T, where he served in a variety of leadership capacities over the period of 18 years. He then worked at Priceline.com as President and CEO from 1999 to 2000, before becoming the CEO of Virgin Mobile USA in 2001. .
Later in his career, Schulman worked for American Express as the Group President of Enterprise Development. In this role, he was responsible for directing the company's global strategy to broaden its client base beyond its core market of wealthy cardmembers. Also, he was in charge of managing the company's acquisition of the Revolution Money online payments platform.
In 2014, Schulman became President and CEO of PayPal after having joined the company. The rapid expansion of PayPal's customer base and the launch of innovative new goods and services, such as Venmo and PayPal Credit, are both direct results of his direction of the company. Additionally, he has concentrated his efforts on enhancing financial inclusion and broadening access to financial services for populations that are not well served.
In addition to his work at PayPal, Schulman is a member of the Board of Directors of Verizon Communications Inc. and serves on the Board of Governors of the World Economic Forum.
Personal Life
Schulman was born in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Princeton, New Jersey alongside his brother Joel Schulman and his late sister, Amy Adina Schulman, who passed away in 1986. He excelled as the captain of the lacrosse and tennis teams while attending Princeton High School. His mother, S. Ruth Schulman, was an associate dean of Rutgers' Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) from 1974 to 1999. His father, Mel Schulman, worked as a chemical engineer.
