The objective of the Worldcoin initiative is to construct the most expansive network for identity and financial services on a global scale, transforming it into a communal utility that empowers everyone. At the heart of the Worldcoin initiative is the creation of essential infrastructure critical in a future dominated by artificial intelligence.

At the core of the Worldcoin ecosystem lies the World ID, an innovative, privacy-centric global identity framework. World ID empowers users to authenticate their human status online while safeguarding their anonymity through the use of zero-knowledge proofs.

With World ID, individuals can authenticate their genuine, singular human identity across various platforms that integrate the protocol, including web3 ecosystems, social media platforms, and government initiatives. This capability facilitates equitable airdrops or sales of tokens/NFTs, strengthens defenses against automated bots and Sybil attacks on social networks, and promotes a more equitable allocation of scarce government resources. To interact with the Worldcoin protocol, it is necessary for individuals to initially download a compatible wallet application that facilitates the creation of a World ID. Participants must then visit a specialized scanning unit known as the Orb to have their World ID Orb-verified. These Orbs are managed by a coalition of independent local enterprises referred to as Orb Operators. Employing advanced multispectral sensors, the Orb confirms a user’s human and unique status in order to issue an Orb-verified World ID, with all captured images being immediately removed from the device by default (unless there's explicit consent for Data Custody). Holders of an Orb-verified World ID are eligible to receive periodic distributions of complimentary WLD tokens, though these are subject to specific access limitations. The WLD token is intentionally crafted to function as a utility token with governance features.
