Catizen reveals Airdrop Pass as CATI launches
The gaming sensation on Telegram, Catizen, has unveiled that its cryptocurrency will unlock access to upcoming airdrops via a special season pass. This development coincides with the release and airdrop of its CATI token on The Open Network (TON).
At the outset, Catizen aims to delight its swipe-to-earn game enthusiasts by distributing 15% of its entire token supply. The launch and airdrop festivities are set for today.
However, the announcement initially met with mixed responses from the community last week. Gamers had anticipated, based on the game's original documentation, that 34% of tokens would be allocated to the airdrop. The confusion arose because Catizen planned to reserve 19% for a "seasonal airdrop campaign every quarter," which it has now clarified will be materialized through an airdrop pass.
A significant 19% of tokens will be dispersed chiefly via the Airdrop Pass. This Airdrop Pass is designed to cycle every 90 days, releasing 1% of tokens each season. Gamers can accumulate points by fulfilling various tasks, with the airdrop pass showcasing their scores alongside those of the entire Catizen community.
Should this plan proceed, Catizen has a roadmap to carry out 19 seasonal airdrops over nearly five years. While initially there was a sense of letdown over the smaller-than-expected current airdrop, the subsequent seasons promise enhanced rewards, potentially including bonuses from allied projects.
Games like Catizen on Telegram face the challenge of balancing appealing short-term airdrop rewards with the sustainability needed for long-term success. Other projects, such as Notcoin, have had to drastically transform to maintain player engagement. Catizen aims to sidestep these issues by sculpting an economic framework to sustain future airdrops.
It appears that the airdrop pass can be acquired with CATI tokens, presenting a practical application for the newly minted cryptocurrency. However, the specific cost remains undisclosed.
Upon disclosing the total CATI tokens players earned for the airdrop, Catizen faced significant criticism from its base. Many gamers, having invested months in the game, expected a more generous token distribution, leading to widespread disappointment.
But it wasn't just the magnitude of the airdrop stirring discontent. Changes to the airdrop criteria and opaque division of the token supply—particularly when adjustments were made to curb gaming the system—further frustrated players, even diminishing rewards for those playing fairly. In response to the outcry, Catizen has proposed adjustments, promising a move towards greater transparency in the future.
