Pavel Durov Received a Username for $80,000 in TON as a Gift
The messenger founder announced an unusual gift of $80,000 in TON
An anonymous crypto entrepreneur who owns the usernames @founder and @crypto won an auction for the username @pavel and gave it to Telegram founder Pavel Durov.
Previously, this username belonged to blogger Pavel Fedorov, who received $80,000 a TON for auctioning it off. In his channel, Durov explained that Fedorov was an early user of messenger and got his username @pavel for free nine years ago. A week ago, he decided to put the username up for auction.
"After a fierce bidding war, the crypto entrepreneur @founder, who owns @crypto and many other Telegram handles, won the auction. In a surprising twist, @founder gifted me the @pavel name earlier today." — Durov wrote in his channel.
He also thanked the crypto entrepreneur for the gift and emphasized the pros of owning usernames by Telegram users. Interestingly, over the past 18 months, $350 million worth of Telegram usernames and anonymous numbers have been sold. The trade takes place on the Fragment platform.
