Career

From 2003 through 2011, he served as Senior Vice President and a Founder Partner of Nemertes Research. While there, Antonopoulos conducted research on computer security, concluding that too complex systems brought on by swift business transformation posed a greater threat to computer security than skilled hackers.

In 2012 Antonopoulos became obsessed with Bitcoin and began speaking at conferences on cryptocurrencies, offering startup consulting, and publishing technical books and articles. He did all of his work in the Bitcoin space for free, therefore he only received donations to support himself.

Antonopoulos joined Blockchain.info as a chief security officer, in January 2014. He departed his position as CSO in September 2014.

Dorian Nakamoto, who was named in a Newsweek article as Satoshi Nakamoto, the person who invented bitcoin, was the subject of a fundraising effort organized by Antonopoulos in April 2014. The fundraiser raised 50 bitcoins, which were worth $23,000 at the time and were intended to help Nakamoto.

In order to respond to the senators' inquiries about how to regulate bitcoin in Canada, Antonopoulos spoke before the Banking, Trade, and Commerce committee of the Senate of Canada on October 8, 2014.

The first edition of Antonopoulos' book Mastering Bitcoin was published in print and online in March 2016. A second edition followed in June 2017.

Andreas Antonopoulos's net worth is unclear, although in December 2017, after Roger Ver questioned why Antonopoulos hadn't invested in cryptocurrencies sooner, t Antonopoulos got more than 100 Bitcoins from more than a thousand fans of his work.

Personal Life

Antonopoulos was born in London in 1972 but he and his family relocated to Athens in 1974, right before the Greek Junta. He was raised there and moved back to the UK when he was seventeen.
