Hamster Kombat Listing On Bybit. Can the TON Network Handle It?

The last major listing on TON caused network outages twice, and the token airdrop was a real stress test for TON, according to its developers. Hamster Kombat is set to launch this month, but will TON be able to cope this time around?

Last week, OKX announced the listing of the HMSTR token on September 26. Following it, another major exchange, Bybit, also announced the listing of the token on its launch date. The announcement of HMSTR's new listing date came after a number of delays.

Previously, the Hamster Kombat game team had promised to release the token in July, but postponed the date indefinitely due to technical issues. Online users, meanwhile, attribute the postponement to the many scandals surrounding the project, and in particular a possible legal battle with early investors.

Interest in HMSTR at the pre-market is growing

OKX and Bybit are holding a pre-market for the HMSTR token, allowing interested parties to trade the token before its official launch. OKX launched trading in August, while Bybit launched trading in July. During that timeframe, trading volume on the HMSTR pre-market token topped the $2 million mark.

The daily trading volume of HMSTR token on OKX is 115,400 USDT, while on Bybit it is 19,400 USDT. The exchanges are noticing an increase in user interest in HMSTR.

What will happen on the day HMSTR is listed?

Hamster Kombat has a huge user base of 300 million people who claim airdrop. Representatives of the game have repeatedly stated that this airdrop will be the largest ever. The HMSTR token will be launched on the TON blockchain. Given the recent events surrounding the DOGS listing and its aftermath, users fear a repeat of the situation this time around.

Why did the TON network shut down?

The DOGS listing took place on August 26. 50 million users claimed airdrop, and every minute 150,000 transactions with DOGS were registered in the TON network. As a result, the situation with Notcoin listing was repeated: high load led to the failure of wallets and some exchanges. And the next day the work in the TON network stopped. The developers promptly fixed the problem, but a few days later the situation was repeated.

But if in the case of Notcoin, the network simply could not cope with the load, because it was not ready for such a task, then the failure of the network this time was not only related to the listing of DOGS. TON developers admitted that they were upgrading the network at the time. And its failure was due to the fact that the recommended configuration of validators contained errors, and some validators continued to work on old hardware. This caused the developer to have to fix the bugs hastily. Later, the TON team issued a message in which they warned that they would penalize those validators who do not update their software by the specified deadlines. After all, it is the actions of validators that can lead to network outages.

Risks to the Hamster Kombat listing

Given the scale of the upcoming airdrop, should we expect outages on the TON network? There is such a possibility and it is quite high. The Hamster Kombat team may encourage users to withdraw tokens not only to TON's OTC wallets, but also to the exchanges where the listing takes place, so as not to directly use the TON network and reduce the load on it. Although these actions do not guarantee one hundred percent uptime, as the Notcoin and DOGS teams did the same thing.

The TON developers said they are constantly improving the network to accommodate the sudden influx of users. They recently developed the TON Mintless Jetton, which aims to reduce the load on the networks during token generation events. Therefore, the risks of network outages, as was the case after the DOGS listing, are minimized. In addition, the Hamster Kombat team has promised to reveal details of the technical solutions during airdrop that it has been developing recently with the TON team. And the recent developments will probably be taken into account by them.

What a user should do during a Hamster Kombat listing

Given the early problems with TON network congestion during listings, users should be prepared for possible delays or network outages. During this period, it is also a good idea to keep an eye out for updates from the TON or Hamster Kombat team to stay informed and take action in a timely manner.

To reduce the load on the TON network, one could consider transferring tokens to exchanges where they are listed, rather than to TON's OTC wallets. This can help avoid transaction failures, as exchanges have their own mechanisms to manage large numbers of transactions. In addition, some exchanges may run promotions, such as reducing fees or awarding additional tokens.

It is also worth remembering that HMSTR may experience high volatility on the day of listing, which traders should also pay attention to before buying or selling.
