Harris targets crypto voters with new industry advocacy group
A report from Fox Business on August 7 unveiled the inauguration of a novel pro-crypto initiative named "Crypto for Harris," purposed to vie against Donald Trump's charm within the industry.
This alliance is gearing up for an online community gathering in the coming week, aiming to bolster Harris' campaign while driving fundraising efforts.
Eleanor Terrett of Fox noted that the event's speakers roster boasts notable figures like cryptocurrency proponent Mark Cuban, Anthony Scaramucci of SkyBridge Capital, alongside several Democratic legislators.
The group, which leans towards conservative and Republican perspectives, counts approximately 50 members to date, comprising stakeholders and policy specialists as the core organizers.
Jonathan Padilla, CEO of the Web3 marketing agency Snickerdoodle and an orchestrator of the group, stated that for the U.S. to maintain its pioneering status in blockchain and crypto, it's critical for endeavors like Crypto for Harris to drive the necessary policy dialogues and actions.
Speaking at the conference, Congressman Wiley Nickel from North Carolina expressed that this issue is not Trump's to claim.
In a strategic move, Harris has brought on board two former cryptocurrency advisors in the last week - David Plouffe from the Binance advisory panel, and Gene Sperling, who previously served on the board of Ripple.
Moe Vela, a former advisor to Biden and now a senior consultant at Unicoin, conveyed to the media that Harris and her vice-presidential choice, Tim Walz, herald a new dawn for the sector.
At the Bitcoin 2024 Conference, Trump stole the limelight among crypto enthusiasts and investors with his pledge to retain U.S. government crypto assets and his intent to dismiss SEC chair Gary Gensler–a move that Harris did not emulate.
Simultaneously, Senator Cynthia Lummis has been pushing for the establishment of a national cryptocurrency reserve.
Historically, Joe Biden's Democratic administration has shown a somewhat tepid stance towards cryptocurrency, with entities like the Securities and Exchange Commission launching numerous legal actions against the industry, and figures like Elizabeth Warren vocally criticizing the sector, even proposing a complete prohibition.
Yet, in the current polls, Harris holds a narrow advantage at 45.3% against Trump's 43.4%, with crypto advocate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. trailing at 5.3%.
