Kamala Harris picks a VP with anti-crypto views
In a surprising twist, Vice President Kamala Harris, after showing indications of favoring the cryptocurrency sector, has taken actions that hint at a more skeptical view towards digital currencies.
An Axios report recently hinted that Harris might be eyeing Michigan Senator Gary Peters, a figure known for his critical views on cryptocurrencies, as her vice-presidential partner for the upcoming 2024 elections.
This speculation arises shortly after signals were sent out that President Harris was seeking a new alignment with the cryptocurrency industry, leaving industry supporters baffled and worried about her true intentions.
Furthermore, a report by Reuters highlighted that North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper was in the run as a potential vice-presidential candidate for Harris. Nevertheless, on July 29th, Cooper stepped down from consideration.
Axios has also shed light on Peters’ interest in vying for the nomination, actively seeking support, which has not been well-received within the cryptocurrency circles.
Peters is notably recognized for his strong opposition to cryptocurrencies, having endorsed the Money Laundering Act of 2023 that spotlighted the risks of using digital currencies in financing terrorism.
The cryptocurrency community has voiced their disillusionment with Harris's choice.
This news has adversely affected the value of the Kamala Harris-inspired memecoin, named Kamala Horris [KAMA], which saw a decline of 18% over the last day.
Moreover, data from Polymarket suggests that former President Donald Trump is currently ahead in the polls with 59% votes, placing Harris in the second position with 38% of the votes.
