Solana users are under attack because of Chrome extension
The cryptocurrency aggregate platform, Jupiter, has caused a stir within the digital currency community following its disclosure of a hazardous browser plugin specifically targeting individuals engaged in Solana's DeFi ecosystem.
In an announcement made through X (previously known as Twitter), it was highlighted that the Bull Checker Chrome extension was preying on users frequenting DeFi-focused discussion forums related to Solana.
This particular extension granted its users the ability to engage with decentralized applications (dApps). Nonetheless, upon the execution of a transaction by the user, it clandestinely redirected tokens to an alternative wallet without the user's consent.
Upon unveiling the report, Jupiter urgently cautioned its users against the utilization of these questionable extensions. It was suggested that a specific Reddit user, known as Solana_ OG, played a pivotal role in promoting the Bull Checker extension, persuading individuals to install it.
By embedding detrimental code within the legitimate instructions of Jupiter and Raydium, Bull Checker managed to authorize transactions diverting to alternative wallets.
Consequently, for enhanced protection, users are advised to eliminate any extensions that require broadly unsanctioned permissions.
This controversy emerges amid a notable trend of withdrawals from the Solana network. As per the findings from Coinshare, there has been a significant uptick in the outflow from Solana, particularly over the previous week.
During this period, the altcoin reported a loss of $39 million due to a downturn in trading volume, especially among the ecosystem's meme coin category.
