The governance token of the Balancer Protocol, known as BAL, is rewarded to those who provide liquidity on Balancer. By distributing BAL tokens, the aim is to decentralize the control of the protocol, ensuring its durability and safeguarding it against the downfall of any individual participant.
It is planned to allocate 145,000 BAL tokens to liquidity providers every week, translating to about 7.5 million tokens annually. This allocation strategy implies that in its inaugural year, BAL will undergo a 30% inflation from its initial supply of 25 million tokens. This aggressive inflation rate is strategically designed to expedite the dissemination of governance privileges among those contributing to the protocol.
