Trump paid with Bitcoins for burgers at NYC bar
On Sept. 18, the presidential hopeful showed his backing for digital currencies by buying his followers burgers at a bar in New York, all paid for in BTC.
Upon his entrance into PubKey, a crypto-inspired establishment in Greenwich Village, he was greeted with cheers from Bitcoin enthusiasts and fans alike.
"Who wants a burger?" he prompted, then shelled out nearly a grand on burgers for the crowd, as per Bloomberg's coverage.
Drew Armstrong, a co-creator of PubKey, mentioned that the payment for the meal was made through the Strike payments app, which operates on the Lightning Network, while the establishment accepted the BTC via the Zaprite app.
The presidential candidate hopeful has been courting the digital currency community, a significant voter demographic in the U.S., proclaiming, "Bitcoin is really happening," during his visit to PubKey.
PubKey's other co-founder, Thomas Pacchia, commented on Trump's visit as “huge, iconic,” and a momentous occasion for BTC.
He also noted that this was the first instance a former U.S. president had leveraged Bitcoin for a purchase, marking a historic moment. Meanwhile, Democrat fans played Taylor Swift tracks loudly outside as a form of protest.
Trump catered to every patron at the crypto-inspired Pubkey bar.

With the early November election on the horizon, Donald Trump is likely to bolster his advocacy for Bitcoin and the broader digital currency sector, positioning himself against Democrat contender, Kamala Harris, who has articulated little on the topic.
