Binance to list ZKsync despite widespread criticism
Earlier today, Binance proclaimed its intention to introduce ZKsync (ZK) trading pairs and a token distribution effort aimed at soothing the concerns raised by the community regarding the ZK airdrop.
Trading for ZKsync pairs is slated to start today at 8AM UTC, making the token available for spot transactions. Available trading pairs include BTC, USDT, FDUSD, and the Turkish Lira. Binance patrons are encouraged to deposit ZK in anticipation, with the option to withdraw becoming available one day post-listing. This initiative is planned to roll out an hour following the commencement of the official ZKsync airdrop claims.
Despite Bybit initiating ZKsync deposits on June 14 amid concerns regarding the token’s airdrop strategy, OKX CEO Star took to X to question the trend, probing if labeling ZKsync a "scam" by "crypto influencers" stemmed from the airdrop's deviation from community expectations.
Binance, addressing the "ongoing concerns" echoed by the community regarding the ZK token distribution previously announced by the ZKsync Association, acknowledged the outcry in its statement.
The criticism largely emanates from the airdrop strategy's failure to implement countermeasures against Sybil attacks, a tactic involving the creation of numerous fraudulent accounts to garner additional tokens.
In response, the ZK team, through a post on X last week, admitted the community's unrest yet reaffirmed their commitment to their outlined strategy. They provided a set of FAQs, clarifying the absence of significant airdrop issues.
Alongside the new ZK trading pairs, Binance declared a token giveaway scheme as a counteraction to the ZK airdrop criticism. The platform is poised to allocate 10.5 million ZK tokens to approximately 52,500 users.
Qualification for the Binance ZK token giveaway necessitates having initiated at least 50 ZKsync Era transactions from February 2023 to March 2024, across at least seven distinct months within this interval.
Moreover, participants must not have engaged in claiming ZK tokens via the official ZK Nation airdrop. Tokens will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with the inaugural airdrop scheduled for June 25.
