Ripple CEO Follows Coinbase In Seeking Crypto Regulatory Clarity From US Congress
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse met with members of Congress on Sept. 19 to discuss cryptocurrency regulation.
In his X account, Garlinghouse shared that he and other top executives of the company met with members of Congress to discuss the future of cryptocurrencies in the country. The details of the discussion as well as the names of the congressmen remained a secret. What is known is that Ripple's Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty is in Washington, D.C. and visited the U.S. Supreme Court. He stressed the importance of using checks and balances while the industry waits for clarity from Congress.
Back in D.C. today to meet with members of Congress alongside @s_alderoty, @RobGsix and our global policy team. Can’t get regulatory clarity without actually engaging with the elected officials who are proposing bills! pic.twitter.com/Yv0N4lpMBk

Garlinghouse's next tweet contained a photo of the CEO in front of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission building. In his post, he stated that he had not met with Commission Chairman Gary Gensler.
Had to take a picture in front of the @SECGov building while in town. (in case you’re wondering…no, Chair Gensler did not invite us in) pic.twitter.com/qfbfU7PrGQ

The Ripple executive's presence in Washington is due to the company's partial court victory against the SEC. Ripple and Garlinghouse also became the second industry heavyweights to publicly demand that Congress pass cryptocurrency legislation. Coinbase previously launched its ad campaign to encourage more people to seek clarity from Congress on the crypto space.
Curiously, several lawmakers have been working on their own versions of cryptocurrency legislation lately. Last week, cryptocurrency opponent Elizabeth Warren called for tighter regulation. She was joined by nine senators.
