Ronin launches zkEVM, a layer-2 blockchain
Today marks the unveiling of Ronin's zkEVM, an innovative zero-knowledge layer-2 blockchain that leverages a specially tailored version of the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK). The launch is a significant step towards enhancing the network's scalability and meeting the needs of its growing user base. This advancement aims to amplify the development efforts of related game studios and broaden the ecosystem's open nature, paving the way for a diverse array of gaming ventures.
Expanding beyond its origins with Sky Mavis’ hit game Axie Infinity, the Ronin network now supports a vast spectrum of gaming ventures, serving 1.4 million daily active users. The rollout of Ronin zkEVM is poised to catalyze further growth by equipping partner studios with advanced tools to innovate and captivate more players.
Trung Nguyen, the co-founder and CEO of Sky Mavis, emphasizes the company's ambition to forge a cohesive gaming environment. This ecosystem would streamline asset exchanges and token transactions across different layers.
Jeff Zirlin, Sky Mavis’ co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, conveyed that gaming entities currently operating on the Ronin mainnet will have the autonomy to launch their own tailored blockchain, or appchain, allowing for game-specific blockchains.
Sky Mavis plans to upgrade existing decentralized applications on Ronin, including Katana DEX and Mavis Market. According to Zirlin, these platforms will play a crucial role in bridging different rollups, especially with the impending launch of a cross-chain relay service.
As a result, users will enjoy the convenience of transferring and swapping tokens across the Ronin ecosystem seamlessly, as well as purchasing and selling NFTs via Mavis Market.
Sandeep Nailwal, Polygon’s co-founder and Chief Business Officer at Polygon Labs, also shared his insights on the partnership, emphasizing Ronin's blend of cutting-edge technology and substantial user interaction and distribution prowess. The adoption of the Polygon CDK is anticipated to elevate Ronin's gaming ecosystem to a leading hub for game developers around the globe.
