Pump.fun beats out SunPump
The memecoin hub on Solana, Pump.fun, has reclaimed its position at the forefront of statistical rankings, surpassing SunPump. This shift comes almost two weeks following SunPump's brief surge ahead in the number of daily coins minted on the Tron-based platform.
On the 21st of August, SunPump managed to mint 1,658 more tokens than Pump.fun within a single day. Nevertheless, this lead in token generation proved to be fleeting. By Wednesday, data from Dune revealed that SunPump's production had plummeted to just 1,258 tokens, marking an 83% decrease from the 7,531 tokens it had minted a fortnight earlier.
This downturn is mirrored in the number of daily active swappers on the Tron platform, which dwindled from 29,099 on August 21 to just 6,816 by Wednesday—a 76.5% reduction.
It's not so much that Pump.fun dramatically surged in token creation compared to SunPump; rather, SunPump's figures dropped more precipitously than those of its Solana-based counterpart.
At the height of SunPump's popularity, Pump.fun had released 6,941 tokens, and over the last 24 hours—as its rival from Tron experienced a decline—Pump.fun managed to produce 5,824 tokens.
As SunPump experiences a significant downturn, unseen since the protocol's initial days, Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, teased on Twitter about an impending "celebrity season" for the network.
This year, numerous celebrity-themed meme coins emerged on Solana's Pump.fun platform, many launched under the initiative of crypto promoter Sahil Arora, featuring tokens named after celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner, R&B star Jason Derulo, rapper Lil Pump, and others.
When inquired whether he's collaborating with Sun for Tron's much-anticipated "celebrity season," Arora presented several instances of his alleged past partnerships with the network, urging for a deeper investigation into the connections.
