OKX Racer: The First Major Exchange Mini-Game in Telegram
OKX became the first exchange to launch its mini-app in Telegram. Let's find out whether there is something unique in yet another tap-to-earn and whether it's worth paying attention to it.
What is OKX Racer?
OKX Racer is a new mini-app launched by one of the large and respected exchanges. OKX was the first centralized exchange to join the trend of mini-apps in Telegram. OKX Racer positions itself as a unique and different from other tap-to-earners, which offers users to guess the movement of Bitcoin price and get points for it. In the first day of its existence, the game attracted more than 1 million active users.
With the help of its initiative, the exchange plans to attract new users to the crypto industry and beyond. How does the yet another mini-app work? Will it repeat the success of Notcoin and is it worth spending your time on it?
OKX Racer review
OKX Racer offers to guess the live Bitcoin price movement in the 5-second timeframe. On the main page, the user is asked to click “Moon” if they are sure that the price will rise or “Doom” if they think the price will fall. The correct answer gives points (PTS), which can then be spent on various improvements in the “Upgrade” section. Additional points can be obtained through the classic scheme of inviting friends. In addition, the mini-app offers to connect to the OKX exchange and link an account for additional points and some “surprises” in the future. This action is presumably linked to airdrop. Although exchange representatives have not confirmed/denied the airdrop. It is unknown whether these points will be converted into tokens.
On the leaderboard page, you can check your ranking. If you have invited friends, you can also monitor their progress. At the time of writing this article, more than 3.5 million players are guessing the price movement of the main cryptocurrency.
In the Task section, the user can spend on improvements such as increasing the fuel tank and turbocharging. It is possible to upgrade the fuel tank for free three times. It is also possible to get daily rewards for logging into the mini-app and additional points by connecting an OKX account and completing KYC.
Under the Invite tab, you can get 5,000 points each for the first five successful invites.
Some “surprises” will be available in the Surprises tab, but not immediately. The mini-application requires an account on the exchange, installation of the OKX app, linking a Telegram account, and KYC. It's unclear what kind of “surprises” await users of the mini-app. Some hope for airdrop, but there was no direct confirmation of this. Users are used to dozens of tap-to-earn that promise airdrop, and sometimes do not pay attention to the fact that some popular mini-apps initially DO NOT promise token distribution. OKX Racer may be among such apps. However, we do not state this for sure.
The app has just launched, and it is too early to draw conclusions regarding airdrop. However, this question is of concern to users. The representatives of the exchange do not say whether they are going to convert points into real tokens. And if they do, are they going to launch another token, or will users get the exchange's existing token, OKB?
Is it worth your time?
At first glance, OKX Racer may seem like an interesting mini-app aimed at attracting newcomers to the world of cryptocurrencies and increasing the engagement of existing ones. OKX Racer differs from dozens of similar tappers in that it doesn't require mindlessly clicking on a coin. The mini-game has attracted a wide audience due to its simplicity and the strong market players behind it.
But OKX Racer can't be called innovative or even exciting either. In 2019, the Hxro platform introduced a similar game called MoonRekt. The working principle was also related to predicting the price of Bitcoin.
OKX Racer is built on the idea of guessing the price. The most astute users can track the actual price change down to seconds on the same OKX exchange and simultaneously apply this to the OKX Racer app to earn points. However, this quickly gets boring, and simple guessing with no hints yields 70%-80% correct answers.
The longer you have to click on “Moon” or “Doom”, the more it seems that the whole process is like a typical slot machine: boring and useless. Any claimed development and education is out of the question here.
The OKX Racer team is left to promise airdrop to keep the audience of the mini-application. Or to introduce really exciting tasks aimed at learning and community development. Except OKX is an established marketplace that already has a strong user base. There is no need to attract new users and keep them with some mini-app.
This applies to token airdrop as well. Newcomers and smaller players in the industry distribute a more generous amount of tokens to thereby attract the community. OKX is a major player that no longer needs to earn its place in the cryptocurrency industry. The game from the exchange is worth a look if you don't initially build expectations around it. The creators didn't promise a token launch. And if airdrop in OKX Racer does happen, the distribution will be tiny.
